Maeving Electric Motorcycle - A class Act at a Decent Price

We uncovered what makes the Maeving so desirable!

A Maeving electric motorcycle is parked in front of a building that says servicing.

The Maeving RM1 electric motorcycle with its classic lines and accessible price has sold out from its first production run and the company is taking expressions of interest for delivery in 2022.

What’s the Fuss About?

In a previous article we have pointed out that Zero were basically taking the Mickey with their prices, selling a 1000cc-equivalent electric motorcycle for roughly double the equivalent ICE bike. Maeving seem to know what people will pay for a machine.

For around £6k delivered you get a beautiful electric motorcycle with a top speed of 48mph - more than enough to handle the North Circular without getting pinged by a speed camera.

The bike has a range of 40 miles per battery and you can fit two. The one-battery bike price is just under £5k while the second battery, if bought with the bike, is an extra £995.

Not Just Practical!

Maeving have absolutely nailed the design with the RM1’s looks. This looks just stunning with its retro feel that makes it blend in with the city streets. You’re not going to try the Isle of Man TT on it (or fantasise you’re doing it while acting like an idiot on country roads) but you’ve the speed to stay out of trouble on faster urban stretches.

For getting into Central London from the outer boroughs on a daily commute, the RM1 is a practical machine for the job.

Not an e-Bike

At £6k the Maeving RM1 is similar in price to a mid-range e-bike. That’s where the similarities end. You will need a full motorcycle license to ride it and it doesn’t have pedals so you won’t break a sweat.

It has just one moving part in the drivetrain - the rear hub Bosch motor. That will make it a sight easier to maintain over the years than an e-bike where you’ll need to replace the chain, cassette and who knows what else every 1000 miles.

As to ‘gears’? These are electric power settings. You won’t have to grab the clutch handle and kick the foot-gear lever (sometimes forgetting what gear you’re in and stalling when starting again!) as you just press the button with your thumb. It’s mindlessly easy to use in short!

MOT and insurance will be required, but if you don’t insure your e-bike these days you’re in a fantasy land and you need to keep your machine safe for your use with regular servicing anyway.

As a whole, this is a brilliant piece of kit. Go over to the Maeving website to see what we’re on about!
